Message
from the Founder

Consus Foundation started with the vision of spreading education among the underprivileged children in a unique way. We strive to elevate the exposure that these children normally get in a multidimensional way and bring it to the same level as an urban child by providing them visuals aids and attempting to change their thought process towards a structured approach which would allow them to take a constructive decision at any point in life.

Empowering women came next when we started free training schools for women where they are taught the art of stitching and given to design and produce items which brings in a lot of utility and creativity in the craftsmanship.

Consus Efforts

“Arzoo” is established in 2013 to manage grooming of children aged 2-6 years and “Pragati” started in 2014 to make the women empowered.

Arzoo
A Centre for Learning

As we know, education creates the foundation for a child, but the bitter truth is that a large chunk of our population is still deprived of such facilities in our country.

“Arzoo” (meaning ‘To Aspire’) is an attempt to eradicate illiteracy among the weakest section of the society. By introducing a vocational skill development programme, we’re focusing on quality education and skill development of a child. ‘Arzoo - A Centre for Learning' is located in a village called Hariahera (18 kilometres from Gurgaon, primarily a dalit village) and in Rajendra Park (about 3 kilometres from Gurgaon railway station).

At Arzoo we cater to the age group of 3-6 years, where we provide education to 90+ students. Under this program, we offer them 360 degree learning and nurture their creativity and imagination in such a way that they don’t lag behind in the subsequent years of schooling.

Approach at Arzoo

  • Interactive Learning: Through an approach which is otherwise not available to the children residing in villages, we foster learning through innovative ways that includes showing them presentations to make them aware of their surroundings.
  • Theme Based Curriculum: We, at Arzoo, make the curriculum interesting and interactive for the budding group of students.
  • Inclusive Learning: We organise mentoring sessions for the parents so they understand the importance of education.
  • Changing Lifestyle: We run educational campaigns such as healthy habit, hygiene, and population control in the rural areas.
  • Overall Development: Besides imparting education, we also focus on extracurricular activities for our kids.
  • Healthy Food Habit: Free mid-day meal for the kids keeping their nutritional benefits in mind.
  • Student Motivation and Engagement: Free books and necessary material such as stationary to support the needy.

Objective

  • Setting up new centres for betterment of education for under privileged children.
  • Encouraging female child participation and getting them enrolled in our schools.
  • Running campaign in rural areas and educating parents about the importance of pursuing schooling for at least 15 years after they complete their basic education at “Arzoo”.
  • Conducting awareness campaigns in order to develop healthy habits and adopt hygiene and population control measures.

The Impact

Till date, Arzoo operates two schools in Gurgaon and has provided education to more than 160 children. In addition to education, students are provided a nutritious mid-day meal and emphasis is given to art and crafts, music, dance and sports activities. Over the last two years, the average attendance rate has increased multi-fold. Due to the constant efforts to educate parents, they now understand the importance of sending their children to our school. We have a healthy gender mix of students (50:50).

After the students are 6 years old, we assist families in the daunting task of enrolling the students into government or public schools for higher education. Each child at Consus has a dream and the school nurtures those dreams with fun-filled, immersive education. Consus motivates the child to chase the dream and work hard in his life to fulfil that dream. Weseek to achieve a better tomorrow through the medium of education and unleash the power of knowledge that is inaccessible to the millions.

Activities at Arzoo

Medical Camp

With the objective of social awareness, Consus Foundation in association with Medanta and Sujata Hospital, regularly organises medical camps for the local people in the vicinity of the Arzoo schools. Till date, more than 200 villagers have participated in these camps. The camp organised are mainly general health check-ups and free medication.

Healthy Habit Campaign

Healthy habit campaign was organised for the residents of Hariahera and Rajendra Park centres. It was one of the critical issues amongst the villagers which needed to be addressed. The week-long event addressed the common health related issues and basic hygiene awareness amongst the students, they were also given small grooming kits.

Population Control Awareness Camp

With the objective of creating awareness of population control amongst the localities of Hariahera, Consus Foundation organized a camp where participants were made to understand the benefits of family planning.

Educational Trip : Visit to Zoo

Consus does not only believe in imparting education to children within the four walls of the school premises. It focuses on giving real life experience to the students. In this regard, we organize a day-trip to National Zoological Park for the kids accompanied by their mothers.

Entertainment Trip

The students at Arzoo were invited by PVR Cinemas for a special screening of a kid’s movie. It was a fun-filled and unique experience for the kids, since it was their first outing to a theatre.

Pragati
Empowering Women

Women community in the rural areas are the worst sufferers of poverty and unemployment.

Without any income of their own, they need to depend on the male community for all their basic needs. Women empowerment through self-reliance and financial independence can be achieved by providing vocational training, which will help them find gainful employment and build self-confidence and dignity.

Pragati, a part of Consus Foundation, was founded in 2013 to work towards the empowerment of underprivileged women. We run this training centre to make women self-sufficient and confident. The first 6 months of training consists of teaching the basics of stitching and eventually mastering the art.

Post the initial training session, women are absorbed in Advanced Training Program, where they start making utility items from scratch. They develop their unique craftsmanship and get equipped to independently earn their livelihood.

Approach at Pragati

  • At Pragati, we up-skill women to become small-scale entrepreneurs. They are trained to stitch high quality hand-crafted products, where finishing of products is of utmost priority. They also learn about the fabric types and its reorganization.
  • We make them aware about the market trends in general and it’s ever changing dynamics, which motivate them to learning new skills.
  • We teach them how to work in teams and meet the timelines, so that they can work independently in a professional manner.
  • As we follow a corporate approach, we customize our products laptop bags, organizer, coat holders and tiffin bags according to the suitability of our clients.

Objective

  • Promoting employment oriented skill and cultivating entrepreneurship.
  • Generating awareness on the social issues, especially prevailing in rural areas.
  • Connecting with renowned institutes to solidify the training program and provide professional certification.

The Impact

Since 2013, more than 60 women have been trained at Pragati and are now self-employed. They generally operate from home and earn a livelihood for themselves and their families. The up skilling at our centre have enabled them to seek employment and become self-dependent.

  • We have contributed to the upliftment of women by making their product saleable.
  • We collect old cloths and recycle then into wearable for the poor section of the society.
  • We provide infrastructure support by providing sewing machine parts and raw materials used in the production of different products.
